International resort conference - Renaissance of resorts

On the 11th of November, for the fourth time in Jūrmala an international resort conference "Renaissance of resorts" was held. The conference was attended by approximately 120 health tourism industry representatives and other interested parties. The first part of conference was devoted to new health tourism products and innovative marketing activities, as well as health tourism tendencies in Europe and world. The founder of Health, Wellness & SPA observatory Mr. Laszlo Puczko from Hungary told about innovations in health tourism products and their use in Europe, the head of Tourism studies research center of the Eastern Finland University Mrs. Anja Touohino provided information about project of Nordic Wellbeing Concept and its use in Finnish resorts. Useful information was provided by the head of Scientific Institute of Economics and management of the University of Latvia Mrs. Aija van der Steina – she was speaking about marketing of health tourism products. The first part of conference was finished by insight into a book “Healing resources. SPA & Wellness from the Baltic to the Black Sea” issued in the middle of December in English and Russian languages. The second part of the conference was mostly about the development of architecture in the historical resorts located by the Baltic Sea. A deeper insight into resort development and renovation and use of historic architecture buildings nowadays in Karelian isthmus of Gulf of Finland was provided by architecture scientist from Russia -  Dr. Arch Svetlana Levoshko and Olga Ushakova, architect and assistant professor of St. Petersburg State Architecture and Construction University. Information about Polish resorts and their special architecture was provided by the researcher of Baltic resorts history and architecture at the Museum of Sopot Justyna Gibbs, but insight into the history and current use of historical buildings of our neighboring resort Pärnu was provided by the senior lecturer of Tourism Management at Pärnu College of Tartu University Dr. Heli Tooman.

The conference was organized with the aim of the development of resort and health tourism branches of the country, to initiate development of new health tourism products, as well as promote use of high quality marketing tools.
